Bruce Phillips began his performing career concurrently while pursuing a career in music education at Montclair State University. At the completion of his second year in college, he auditioned for an agent in New York, Fred Robbins. He successfully passed the audition and was given a 10 week engagement at a hotel on the Jersey Shore. This experience became the genesis of a career as a singer/pianist. He subsequently began a teaching career in both the Nutley School System and later the Newark Board of Education. Upon retirement from teaching he was able to devote more time to his performing career. He began performing in Paris, France in small clubs in Monmatre. Eventually, this lead to other gigs in Paris. In October 2012, he was playing on a dub on the left bank and was introduced to a manager who arranged a concert on the Court of Brittany in April 2013. Another concert was performed last October 2012. He also played an event for Madame Christine Pugeout during her Atelier in Paris during his October concert series. Bruce is married to Joyce Phillips, a classical pianist. They have a beautiful daughter, Allegra, who is an attorney in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She, in turn, has a beautiful daughter Valentina, who is named after one of Allegra's former ballet teachers, the legendary Valentina Kozlova.
Bruce is planning to perform in a summer musical festival in France this summer. His program on May 17, 2014 will include material from the American Song Book as well as songs written by French composers such as Charles Aznevour, Jacques Brel, and Leo Ferre.
